-Minister Bush Discloses-
Monrovia, December 5, 2014: Transport Minister, Angela Cassell-Bush, has disclosed that the Ministry of Transport under her leadership will work with the National Deconcentration Implementation Strategy Secretariat to ensure the deconcentration of the Ministry’s functions in a more productive way in phases.
Making a 5-minute presentation at a One-day High Level Roundtable Decentralization Implementation Workshop sponsored by the Governance Commission on Thursday, December 4, 2014, at the Monrovia City Hall, Minister Bush said eight regional offices are earmarked towards the decentralization of the activities of the Ministry of Transport. They include Gbarnga, Monrovia, Tubmanburg, Buchanan, Ganta, Voinjaima, Zwedru and Harper respectively. To implement the Ministry’s deconcentrated functions, she said seven strategic activities have been defined. They include:
A. Issuance of driver’s licenses and registration of vehicles
B. Issuance of license plates
C. Registration of transport-related businesses
D. Registration of garages and spare parts stores
E. Registration of dealership of spare parts, garages, earth moving equipment
F. Inspection and certification and licensing of driving schools, car rental services,
G. Registration of transport unions, etc.
Minister Bush praised the GIZ, one of the Ministry’s partners which has expressed its willingness to provide logistical support for the regional offices once they become operational.
Concluding, the Transport Boss appealed to the Government of Liberia to provide budgetary allocation that will consider the Ministry’s decentralization efforts.
