To Protect Our Roads from Danger, Ministry of Transport Launches New Axle Load Weighbridge in Caresburg

CAREYSBURG TOWNSHIP – In a major move to protect Liberia’s public infrastructure, the Ministry of Transport has officially commissioned a brand-new Axle Load Weighbridge right here in Caresburg Township, Montserrado County.
The new facility is designed to stop a massive problem facing our highways: overloaded trucks that rapidly degrade asphalt, crack bridges, and create hazardous driving conditions for everyday commuters.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Transport Minister Hon. Sirleaf Ralph Tyler emphasized that the weighbridge is a proactive shield for Liberia’s roads.
"This axle load weighbridge intends to protect Liberia's roads and bridges from the dangers caused by overloaded trucks," Minister Tyler stated.
The Minister highlighted that this is part of a nationwide rollout. Caresburg marks the second milestone in a larger strategy to safeguard connectivity across the country.
It can be recalled that early 2025 the Ministry of Transport through its Axel Load Division constructed its weight bridge first Station in Klay Town, Bomi County, and another one was been commission today, Tuesday, June 2, 2026 in the Township of Careysburg, Montserrado County.
The project is a collaborative effort with WADRA, the Ministry of Transport’s technical partner aiding in both the construction and day-to-day operations of these vital stations.
During the program, WADRA’s Operations Manager reaffirmed their long-term commitment to the country's development. She noted that building these weighbridges does more than just protect current pavement—it actually helps fund future infrastructure.
By holding overloaded logistics and commercial trucks accountable, the system directly enables the *National Road Fund* to generate the necessary resources to maintain existing highways and construct brand-new roads across Liberia.
As transport traffic increases across Montserrado County, the new Caresburg weighbridge stands as a vital checkpoint for safety, accountability, and infrastructure preservation. The Ministry of Transport and WADRA are ensuring that as Liberia grows, our roads stay strong enough to carry us into the future.
