Transporr Minister Sirleaf Ralph Tyler Calls for National Unity and Institutional Excellence at License Plate Launch
The Minister of Transport of the Republic of Liberia, Hon. Sirleaf Ralph Tyler, has called on Liberians to embrace patriotism, institutional discipline, and collective responsibility as the Ministry of Transport officially decommissioned the old motor vehicle license plates and launched a new generation of regulatory plates.
Making special remarks at the historic ceremony, Minister Tyler described the occasion as a major milestone in Liberia’s transport reform agenda, noting that the introduction of new license plates every five years places the Ministry in full compliance with the legal and traditional norms governing the transport sector.
“Today, we are in full compliance with the legal and traditional norms at the Ministry of Transport with the introduction of new vehicle regulatory license plates every five years. Let us congratulate all of us — the MoT family,” Minister Tyler declared.
The Transport Minister extended profound gratitude to God and to President Joseph Nyuma Boakai for what he described as visionary leadership rooted in discipline, ethics, and national consciousness. He stressed that the current administration promotes sustainable hard work over mediocrity, ethical values over institutional decay, patriotic compassion over gossip and patronage, and love for country over loyalty to narrow political interests.
Minister Tyler further emphasized that under President Boakai’s leadership, Liberia remains supreme above all political considerations, reaffirming the government’s commitment to national unity, professionalism, and inclusive governance.
In a major policy announcement, Minister Tyler disclosed that through collective efforts between the Ministry of Transport, the Liberia Civil Aviation Authority (LCAA), the Liberia Airport Authority (LAA), and Brussels Airlines, Liberia has secured immediate funding of eight million United States dollars (US$8 million) from the European Union for the provision of Navigation Aids (NAV AIDs) and specialized training at the Roberts International Airport.
He also announced that the Ministry will begin the replacement of damaged road cat-eyes along Somalia Drive, while new cat-eye installations from Soul Clinic to Mount Barclay Road will commence within a week. Additionally, final containers for the installation of 25 modern traffic lights are expected to arrive in the country on February 5, paving the way for immediate nationwide traffic management improvements.
Addressing transport challenges along the Bong Mines–Monrovia railway corridor, Minister Tyler revealed that discussions with China Union and affected communities have concluded, with arrangements now in place to allow communities a designated day to transport charcoal to Louisiana, while China Union will move its goods at a minimal fee.
Concluding his remarks, Minister Tyler reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to reform, modernization, and service delivery, declaring that the issuance of the new motor vehicle license plates officially begins immediately. He further disclosed plans to redesign the National Driver’s License in the coming months to meet international ISO quality standards and align with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) technological requirements.
“Ladies and gentlemen, we have a lot of work to do, and we will do so with valor, unwavering commitment, and love for Liberia. Let us get to work as we exemplify thoughts for Liberia, love for Liberia, and the passion for building Liberia,” Minister Tyler concluded.
The ceremony marked not only the launch of a new license plate system, but also a renewed national drive toward institutional excellence, infrastructure development, and a modernized transport system for Liberia.
